Vivent Health Statement on the Shooting of Daunte Wright

Yesterday, the Brooklyn Center police department released the body cam footage of the shooting of Daunte Wright during a traffic stop. The horrifying video makes it abundantly clear: the immediate escalation of violence by police officers for a routine traffic stop and misdemeanor warrant caused the death of this young man. Whether or not the officer who shot Daunte thought she was holding her TASER or her gun, it is not the intent of her actions, but rather the impact of her actions that she must be held accountable for. And in this instance, a police officer’s actions resulted in a tragic and needless loss of yet another young, Black life.
