How to Fight the Winter Blues
Feeling down during winter, known as the “Winter Blues,” is when you feel sad because of the cold and dark winter days. Many people experience this. The cold weather, short days, and less sunlight can mess up your body’s internal clock, making it hard to wake up and causing low energy and moodiness.
Even though we can’t change the season, here are some tips to help you avoid the Winter Blues:
1. Keep Your Room Bright
Dark places can make you feel sad. Sunlight is good, so let it into your room during the day. Keep the lights on at night until you are ready to relax.
2. Get Moving
Exercise makes you feel better. Bundle up and take a short walk outside every day. It only takes 10 minutes of walking to boost your mood.
3. Connect with Others
Talk to friends and family. Doing things with others helps prevent feeling alone. Make plans to hang out and give yourself something fun to look forward to.
4. Find a Hobby
Try something new each week. Writing, reading books from the library, or exploring your local parks are good ideas to keep busy during winter.
Remember, winter doesn’t last forever! Spring is coming, and warmer days are ahead. If you ever need someone to talk to, reach out to your Vivent Health care team for support all year long.
