Vivent Health is disappointed that Colorado rejected harm reduction legislation

Vivent Health is disappointed that a Colorado Senate Committee recently rejected HB23-1202, legislation that would have allowed cities in Colorado to choose whether to authorize overdose prevention centers (OPCs, also sometimes called safe consumption spaces or supervised use sites). Decades of data prove that OPCs are effective public health interventions that save lives. The committee’s decision denies Colorado communities an important tool to help turn back the historic wave of overdose deaths impacting the state.

We know firsthand that meeting people where they are and providing affirming harm reduction services are how we will end this overdose crisis. We thank the many sponsors and supporters of HB1202 for fighting for the bold policies our state deserves, and we urge the General Assembly to swiftly pass this lifesaving legislation next session.
